The Forum Against Harmful Practices (FAHP), with support from WAVES and Irish Aid, today 8th October 2026 conducts an engagement with Paramount Chiefs, Soweis and senior public officials across districts at the Office of the Provincial Secretary South in Bo District.

The engagement facilitated by the Chairperson of FAHP Madam Rugiatu Neneh Turay focused on strengthening coordination across districts on the Alternative Rite of Passage (ARP), including discussions on the teachings of ARP, stakeholders’ perspectives on the approach, and the expected roles of Paramount Chiefs and other key stakeholders in supporting its implementation.

The engagement explored the added value Paramount Chiefs can bring to ARP, practical measures that can be taken to manage the establishment and operation of Bondo houses, challenges and possible solutions, as well as proposed roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in advancing ARP across districts.

This engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to promote an approach that preserves meaningful cultural teachings and identity while supporting alternatives to cutting and contributing to the eradication of FGM in Sierra Leone.
